London: Storm Dennis exposes advantages for real time monitoring of sustainable drainage systems and rainfall forecast alerts

Immediately following a flooding event in Croydon in February, 2020, the London borough needed to assess the effectiveness of the SuDS implemented at Bourne View Allotment, a hotspot known for risk of flooding. The council has deployed two solutions that help identify why, when, and what happens at specific flooding hotspots for such events:

  • HydroMaster - a flood forecast service that provides warnings based on high-resolution weather forecast data [Learn more about HydroMaster]
  • datasphere – a cloud service that stores, validates, and visualises information from sensor networks, telemetry systems and gridded/raster datasets for remote monitoring and analysis [Learn more about datasphere]
